2010 America’s Best DJ Top 50

2010 America’s Best DJ • DJ QBert

A genuine DJ legend, QBert is a turntablist who makes other jocks stand back in awe. Hailing from the San Francisco area, QBert gained fame as a competition-winning battle jock and as one-fifth of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz DJ crew. Always the innovator and known as “The Jimi Hendrix of Turntables,” QBert’s repertoire of scratches and other tricks has won a global following of fans and vinyl-fetish DJs.

2nd Place • Kaskade

A DJ whose profile continues to rise, Kaskade (aka Ryan Raddon) has become one of our most in-demand club talents, not to mention one of America’s most prolific producers. A creator of six artist albums, including 2010’s Dynasty, Kaskade has enjoyed chart success with that CD’s eponymous single, plus others like “Move For Me” (with Canada’s Deadmau5), “Everything” and “Stars Align.”

3rd Place • A-Trak

In 1997, Alain Macklovitch won the DMC World Championship at the age of 15, making him the organization’s youngest winner. Now a seasoned veteran, the Montreal-born/NYC-based A-Trak became Kanye West’s tour DJ, launched the ultra hip Fool’s Gold Records and scored big with a number of remixes, most notably with The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Off With Their Heads.”

4th Place • BT

More than a major electronic DJ/producer, Brian Transeau is an accomplished composer for games and films like the Oscar-winning “Monster” and an innovative software developer—his portable remixing app Sonifi was developed through his company, Sonik Architects. In clubland, he’s created six artist albums, including his latest These Hopeful Machines, and he remains an in-demand DJ and electronic artist.

5th Place • Wolfgang Gartner

One of America’s fastest-rising electronic-music talents, the Austin, Texas-based DJ/producer (born Joey Youngman) has dropped a slew of electro-house club bombs over the past couple years, including eight #1 tracks on Beatport. He’s also been an in-demand remixer for A-list artists like Black Eyed Peas and, lately, his collaborations have gained plenty of attention—“Conscindo” with Mark Knight and “Animal Rights” with Deadmau5. With a recent deal to join the Ultra Records fold, the future’s plenty bright.

6 | Jazzy Jeff
DJ “Jazzy Jeff” Townes was born in West Philadelphia and developed a love of music at an early age. Jeff was just 10 years old when he started spinning records at parties using his family’s basement as a training ground for his expert mixing. Since 1985, DJ Jazzy Jeff has wowed us with his flawless turntable skills, innovative production and musical versatility. From the success of “DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince” with partner Will Smith, to the critical acclaim of his production company “A Touch of Jazz”, Jeff proved time and time again that he would always be a force to be reckoned with.

7 | Steve Aoki
The party starts right here. The LA-based founder of the popular Dim Mak Records has taken his music to the world—from Asia to Ibiza, and America in between. On his recent “Wonderland” album, Aoki collaborated with such international stars as Afrojack, Laidback Luke, Nervo and LMFAO. No doubt, he’ll be coming to your town soon.

8 | DJ Pauly D
Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio is recognized for his musical talent as well as his reality star status on MTV’s highest rated show, “Jersey Shore,” which premiered in December 2009. Quickly a fan favorite, MTV announced Pauly as the first cast member to receive his own spinoff.

9 | Roonie G
Two-time Club World Award Winner and 2008 nominee for “America’s Best DJ,” Roonie G controls the DJ booth with laserlike precision and an unwavering focus. Where traditional DJs are locked into spinning solely audio, ROONIE delves into another dimension by mixing his own creative blend of audio and visual content – content that encompasses popular music videos, iconic film footage, custom graphics, and comedy shorts – delivering multi-sensory stimulation.

10 | Scotty Boy
